The violin is a perfect example of the excellent work of this reknowned Prague’s master from his late period, built after the Stradivari pattern with doubled purfling. It is a great example of Kulik’s sure hand. It is a real jewel of the Czech violin making. It is also in great condition. The only one crack in the right lower bout of the belly is very well repaired. The neck is still original, glued on top of the ribs. The pegs are new and the holes bushed.

A certificate issued by Tomáš Pilař on 11. January 2017 belongs to the instrument.

Jan Kulik, born 14. 1. 1800 in Domasin at Benesov, died 5. 5. 1872 in Prague. He learned at Karel Sembera in Prague. In 1820 he left for Vienna to work as an apprentice at Martin Stoss. In 1824 got independent in Prague. He was married twice. From both marriages had nine children. The daughter Zofie Vorsila married the violin maker Antonin Sitt in 1848, who was an assistent of Kulik at that time. On 26. 7. 1831 Kulik gecame a Prague’s burgher. In Prague he went through twelve workshops before finally settled in his own house in Prague’s district Karlin, Palackeho av. 62. He taught Jos. Barchanek and J. B. Dvorak. he built violins, violas, violas d’amore, violoncelli and double basses, guitars and harps. Some violoncelli he made after the calculations of ing. L. Savoie. His instruments are absolutely perfect and characteristic and belong to the best artworks of the whole Czech violin making history.

and also with a repair label of K. B. Dvořák dated 1899.
